Pilatus or Titlis: which mountain from Lucerne?
What each one is actually like
I guide both, and they are different days. Pilatus is rock. The cogwheel from Alpnachstad climbs at up to 48% through cliffs that have been there since 1889, the summit is a ridge with the Esel and Tomlishorn points either end, and the panorama takes in the Bernese, Uri and central Swiss Alps with Lake Lucerne under your feet. Miriam, who reviewed the Kriens ticket, put it as Alps on one side and lowlands with lakes on the other, which is exactly it. The whole point is the loop: boat, cogwheel, Dragon Ride, gondola, bus, no leg twice, half a day from the city.
Titlis is ice. It is 1,100 m higher, so there is snow and glacier all year, the Rotair cabin turns a full circle on the top section, and the Cliff Walk and the glacier cave are built attractions rather than paths. Getting there is about 45 minutes by train to Engelberg and another 45 minutes of lifts, so it is a full day from Lucerne rather than a half. If you have never stood on snow in July, Titlis gives you that. If you want to feel like you have climbed something, Pilatus does.

Rigi, Stanserhorn and Jungfrau in one line each
Rigi is the Queen of the Mountains, lower, greener, reached by two cogwheel lines and the Weggis cable car, and completely free with the Swiss Travel Pass, which is why so many pass holders choose it. Stanserhorn has the open-top CabriO cable car and is also free with the pass; a good half day but a smaller mountain. Jungfrau is a different region altogether: the Jungfraujoch is a long day from Lucerne with train changes, and I would only pair it with Titlis in the same sentence if you are choosing one big-snow excursion for a whole trip.

Doing both over a week is common and sensible. Pilatus on the clear morning, Titlis on the day you have from breakfast to dinner. Do not do them on the same day; I have watched people try. If it is one mountain only, the worth it page has my honest verdict on Pilatus.

Which is better, Pilatus or Titlis?

Is Titlis free with the Swiss Travel Pass?

Is Rigi or Pilatus better?
Rigi is gentler, greener and free with the pass. Pilatus is more dramatic and has the boat-cogwheel-cableway loop. For most first visits I say Pilatus; the case is on is it worth it.
Titlis or Jungfrau?
Both are high-snow days. Titlis is reachable from Lucerne in about 90 minutes; Jungfraujoch is a long day with changes. Pick one big-snow excursion, and keep Pilatus as the half-day.
Can I do Pilatus and Titlis in one day?
